Who knew that the secret to longevity could be found through square dancing! Join me, and 16 members of Kindersley, Saskatchewan’s “Whirls & Twirls” as we do-sa-do through their stories of Saskatchewan, and their love of square dancing.
From humble beginnings in 2010 with a single metal band called Quetzalcoatl performing a backyard show and barbecuing grilled cheeses with friends in Kindersley, SK. Ever since this original backyard show, attendees and the number of grilled cheese sandwiches consumed at the Kindersley based festival have been doubling each year. With two stages, over twenty musical acts and a large art exhibition, the festival is now expecting attendance in the thousands. In the coming years Grilledcheesapolooza will strive to grow and achieve its mission while staying true to the roots and core philosophies that gave birth to this festival. ALL HAIL THE CHEESE!
Gladys McCarthy is a scientist, a chocolatier, an entrepreneur, owner of “Glad’s Chocolates”, a barn dance host, and a drummer! I meet Gladys in her idyllic setting just outside of Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Gladys returned to the family farm where she lives a very fulfilling life.
Kindersley resident Eleanor Smith shares her stories of an inspiring teacher, her own career as an educator, stories of a tragic murder, and a mysterious rock. Eleanor is an historian, and a lover of words.
Deer and antelope play, telephones made from barbed wire fences and toy electric chairs that work! These are some of the stories you’ll hear from my two guests Bud Thomson (not Anderson! sorry Bud! Electric chair for the host?), and Bill Warrington as we wind our way through the farmlands of Alsask and Loverna, SK in a truck.
